Traverse a landscape of dramatic contrasts, from the iron red soils of the east to the lush, volcanic oases of the west, finally reaching the iconic plains of Amboseli. This route is designed for those who appreciate vast open spaces, unique geological features like the Shetani Lava Flow, and unparalleled opportunities to photograph Africa’s largest tuskers. It is a comprehensive circuit that showcases the raw scale and legendary beauty of the Kenyan south.
Depart Nairobi early and head to Tsavo East National Park. Arrive for lunch at your lodge. Afterwards, enjoy an afternoon game drive across the vast plains, visiting the Aruba Dam where wildlife congregates to drink.
After breakfast, cross into Tsavo West National Park. Visit the Shetani Lava Flow, a massive expanse of black volcanic rock, and Mzima Springs, where crystal clear water filtered through lava rock creates an oasis for hippos and crocodiles. Arrive for lunch at your lodge. Later, spend the evening tracking wildlife in the park’s denser acacia woodlands.
Head west toward Amboseli National Park, arriving in time for lunch. The evening is dedicated to exploring the park’s swamps, which are a magnet for hippos and massive elephant herds. As the clouds clear, enjoy the spectacular sight of Mount Kilimanjaro dominating the southern horizon.
Breakfast then spend the day exploring the Park with morning and afternoon game drives or full day game drive with packed lunch boxes. Visit Observation Hill for a bird's eye view of the swamps and plains. Track lions, cheetahs, and the Park's legendary elephants.
After breakfast, capture the ultimate safari photo during an early morning en route game drive of elephants grazing with a snow-capped Kilimanjaro in the background as you exit the park and begin the journey back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.
